Who we are
The Kiwanis Club of Lexington Blue Grass is the newly merged club of the former Lexington and Blue Grass Kiwanis Clubs. After decades of growth and activity in our community, it was time to come back together to strengthen our impact on our community. Our mission as a chapter of Kiwanis International is to serve the children of our community both locally and abroad.
Our history
On January 8, 1920, the Kiwanis International issued a charter to the men of the Lexington Kiwanis Club who organized their first meeting at the Phoenix Hotel. The heart of Kiwanis is the club itself and has, over the last 100 years made it its mission to serve the children and community of Lexington. The Lexington Kiwanis Club began with 50 notable men in the community, including the city’s mayor at the time, and businessmen in all local industries. The height of the club’s membership came in the late 1960s-early 1970s, when club membership was near 300 and the club split into the Lexington Club and Blue Grass Club. In 2023, the two clubs officially merged to become the Kiwanis Club of Lexington Blue Grass.
