Last summer, my mother and I made a pilgrimage out to Maine for the sole purpose of conducting a site visit of a small residence on an island in Casco Bay. We saw everything on this two week trip as being once-in-a-lifetime, taking every detour and experiencing all that our route offered. What we didn’t know is that I’d be making a very similar trip out east again this summer.
I’m currently on my way towards New England to spend my summer acting as the Endangered Properties Intern for Greater Portland Landmarks, a historic preservation advocacy organization based in the Old Port area of Portland, Maine on the Southern Coast of the state. It will definitely be an experience spending my first summer away from Chicago in the seven years since I’ve lived there, but this is an amazingly wonderful opportunity that I can’t wait to enjoy! So join me on this blog, The Architectural Adventuress, as I get distracted by the detours, experience the unexpected, and discover all that New England and Maine have to offer.
